2 Grammar Tips to Consider When Asking Prices, Time & Distance

We ask many questions on a daily basis. Questions basically are to acquire some kind of information. It is imperative that you ask the right question to get the right answer because if you ask the wrong question you will get an incorrect answer. It defeats the very purpose of you asking the question.  Also, you also need to use the correct question words.  Let us look at some tips and points to consider when asking prices, time & distance.

What are Question Words?

A Question Word is a function word used in a question. We use who for people, what or which for things, where for places, why for reasons, how for details. There are some more question words but today we will focus on words pertaining to asking prices, time and distance.

Tip 1: Always remember the question word will be the first word when asking a question.

Tip 2: The question word does can either be the first word or it can be mid-way in the question. Check the questions in bold.

Questions when asking prices:

  • How much is it?
  • How much does it cost?
  • What is the price/cost for….?
  • Can you please tell me the price/cost for this?

Questions when asking the time:

  • What time is it?
  • What is the time?
  • How much time does it take to reach there?
  • How far is it?
  • How long does it take?
  • How many minutes does it take approximately to get there?
  • Does it take very long…?

Questions when asking the distance:

  • How far is it?
  • Is it very far/close?
  • How many km approximately?
